IMG_1119Cashew ‘Whipped Cream’ on a Bowl of Fresh Organic Berries   Having cashews around the house is a great idea due to their versatility – you can have them raw as a snack, sprinkle them on salads or use them in baking. Cashews are packed with essential minerals and contain 5 grams of protein per ¼ of a cup. This cashew cream recipe is delicious! The “cream” is sweetened naturally with medjool dates, which provide a good source of minerals and fibre. It is so rich and creamy, you will think you are eating dairy.       Ingredients: 1…
bottleOverlay3 Finally a perfume that makes scents! The Canadian perfume brand Evoke is created by eco-expert Candice Batista who uses all natural high grade oils and plant botanicals while incorporating traditional Chinese medicine. These scents have a strong impact on both our emotional state and physical body. There are five different scents – or elements – that make up this eco line. Evoke encourages its consumers to “listen to what your body needs and allow each scent to evoke the elements from…
If you’ve been putting off cleaning up your diet, now is the perfect time to begin.  Fall is here and flu season is upon us. By removing processed, artificial food-like products and replacing them with whole foods with immune-boosting ingredients you can help protect yourself from the flu and improve overall health. After twelve years together, my husband has finally submitted to my encouragement (or nagging as he calls it) to begin the day with a smoothie full of whole foods.  We have two young kids and the morning is busy to say the least. He’s the get-my-breakfast-in-the-drive-thru-with-my-coffee kind of…

You try hard to remain positive and strong, but their negativity and toxic approach leaves you feeling drained, anxious and depressed.  These people are called Energy Vampires. They can show up at home, work and play. So how do you deal with these energy suckers? Unfortunately, garlic doesn’t work here. Here are my…
Last weekend I had the amazing opportunity to go to the University of Guelph’s Anatomy Lab where my sister is a student. This experience was invaluable.  I am forever promoting healthy food, but to actually see, and feel what a diseased heart looks like was an overwhelming reminder to treat our body with respect everyday.  The foods we choose everyday can  affect the quality and quantity of…

For all the Super Bowl spectators this weekend, munching away on your super spread of food here’s a dip you may want to try. I was inspired by the good people at NOW Foods with their amazing product Superseeds to create a  Super Bowl Superseed Spinach Dip!  The average store-bought container of spinach dip has a ton of saturated and trans fats, preservatives, artificial colors, flavors and sodium. I also find that many recipes call for frozen spinach, onion soup mixes (MSG) and heavy dairy products. Impress your guests with this fresh, easy and healthy recipe: 1. In a Food…
Gas and bloating is often to blame for changed plans, clothes that feel too tight and your poor dog being blamed for that stench in the house. Due to poor dietary habits and stagnant digestion many expel gas at least 14 times a day. That can add up to almost 4 pints of air daily. Here are my 10 Tips to reduce gas and bloating. Avoid Drinking With Your Meal. No pop, coffee, tea, milk, juice, etc. If you need to drink try a 1/2 of glass room temp water. Liquids can destroy enzymes that are needed to digest your…
